DONATIONS: GROW A ROW COMMUNITY GARDEN FUNDRAISER

The Earth’s Bounty Grow a Row Community Garden provides access to fresh and nutritious produce, promotes local food production, and contributes to a healthier and more resilient food system for the community.

Participants are allowed to grow one or more 30-foot rows in the community garden at no charge and agree to donate the excess produce to the HOPE Food Pantry at A New Life Herbs.

Garden Location: 40 x 40 Area: Between the Shop & Blue Building:

  • 30 x 30 vegetable garden plot.

  • 10 x 40 x 10 chicken coop and run area.

 

Manure has already been donated for the project!

 

$50 buys (1) 40-pound bag of soil amendment that covers 1,000 square feet.

$75 buys (50) 6” x 4” row markers.

$150 buys (6) Rhode Island red chickens.

$150 buys (1) 4’ x 8’ x 10-1/2” cedar raised bed for chicken herbs.

$200 buys (1) 8 s.f. chicken coop for 6 chickens.

$250 buys (32) herb seedlings for the chicken garden.

$350 buys (1) 248 s.f. (9-1/2’ wide x 26’ long x 6’ tall) walking chicken run.

$400 buys (1) 200-gallon cedar compost bin.

 

TOTAL PROJECTED COST: $1,625.00

 

Project Tasks:

  • Mark the chicken coop and run area.

  • Till the 30 x 30 area and remove any grass and weeds.

  • Add soil amendments as needed.

  • Create (1) 12” row: heirloom corn.

  • Create (6) 12” rows: beets, carrots, garlic, onions, & radishes.

  • Create (10) 18” rows: beans, okra, peas, peppers, & tomatoes.

  • Create (10) 24” rows: cabbage, kale, mustard & Swiss chard.

  • Create (3) 36” rows: cucumbers, melons, pumpkins, & squash.

  • Build a compost bin for organic materials.

  • Build chicken coop(s) & run(s).
